Mary Fitzgerald Dance

As an artist and educator, I am interested in investigating the multiple roles of contemporary dance in society. Ranging from socially engaged arts to interdisciplinary forms, my work explores the relationships that we have to each other, our communities, and the environment.  I am drawn to intimate portraiture, as well as larger-scale projects that investigate the aesthetics of scientific processes and our place within contemporary society.  The interplay of simplicity and complexity fascinates me – the big and small questions about who we are as human beings, and how we can make sense of the world through our physicality and imagination.
